The tradition of chocolate eggs first became popular in Europe around the end of the 19th century. Today, 2.5 million Perugina eggs, the equivalent of 671 tons, are sold each season. Perugina offers three distinct varieties of its chocolate eggs for Easter: a dark chocolate Baci egg, a white chocolate Baci egg and a milk chocolate version, the Perugina egg. The Baci egg is named for Perugina’s most popular confection and includes four Baci inside each hollow egg. “Baci” is the Italian word for “kisses” and the iconic Baci confections are each wrapped in a special message of love written in five different languages and tucked into the foil wrapper.
