NEW: 'Skinny Bitch in the Kitch' Book Giveaway 11/07/2008
0 Comments

Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin, NY Times Best Selling Authors, have written another book called Skinny Bitch: Bun In The Oven.  Publishers Weekly says "…these in-your-face, incisive authors have done their research … Passionately questioning the status quo, Freedman and Barnouin make a compelling case for a vegan pregnancy.”  “We wrote this book to help women eat right—ensuring successful pregnancies and healthy babies."
Topics explored in the book include
the best foods for a healthy baby and mommy (this is no time to be concerned about your figure!), the dangers of common lotions, creams, and beauty products that women slather on their bodies (did someone say carcinogenic?), why every mother should “suck it up” and breastfeed, the low down on what really happens “post push” (baby blues, PPD, …), and what really makes someone an M.I.L.F? (it’s not just about your looks).
Gratitude Gourmet has ONE Skinny Bitch in the Kitch book to giveaway to a lucky gratitude gourmet reader. Here is what you need to do. Send this e-newsletter to your friends and ask them to sign up for the Gratitude Gourmet e-newsletter.  That's it!  Good luck!!

Quinoa: A Protein-Packed Alternative to Grains (NY Times) 11/07/2008
0 Comments

The health benefits of Quinoa (pronounced KEEN-wah) are plenty, and this NY Times article features the history of the grain, a recipe (just make sure to use the vegetable stock option), and the fact that the protein content is superior to most grains because it contains all the essential amino acids. Quinoa is high in lysine, an amino acid important for tissue growth and repair. It’s also a good source of manganese, magnesium, phosphorus and copper, and it has a high iron content. Trader Joes carries an organic version. See the article for more details.
